12 voltr temperature switch

We are trying to install a small vent fan is a storage area agaonst the celing in our MH. Problem is that the tempature gets quite high in that area with no circulation. I would line to install a thermostatic controlled vent fan, but have not been able to find a thermal switch. Anyone got any ideas where I can get one??

RE: I bought the HHR, now what?

We put diodes in the lights, and use the vehicle lights. Reason for this was that we couldn't install extra bulbs due to the way the light reflectors were made. Plug is in front center on the tow bracket. 6K miles, and no problems yet. Lights are nice and bright.

Remodeling again!! Replacing the dash TV on a hurricane?

Has anyone replaced the dash TV on a '99 model Hurricane? I will be putting in a flatscreen 22'inch to replace the old non-digital tube. Any help, details about what's under there, or how-tos are needed.
Thanks, Noel

RE: HHR Tow Car

I replaced our toad with a HHR (Heritage High Roof) this year, and so far, have towed it over 6000 miles with no problem. The switch for the fuse is a good idea, and works well. Our tow brackets are from Blue Ox, and detach from the frone when not in use. With them off, you cannot tell it is a toad. After 6000 miles, I cannot see any unusual tire wear, but will have them inspected carefully when they are rotated. It has lots of room for a lot of our stuff that doesn't fit in the MH, and is really a lot of fun to drive. As far as power, sure it is a bit short, but driving the mountains in Yellowstone, we did OK, and the 30+ mpg makes side trips a lot cheaper.
Only thing, I would advise if you are getting a new one, to get the model with the running boards, and fender proctectors. There does seem to be a lot of splash from the front wheels. A good nose protector bra is a good option also for any toad.
As far as experience, since we have had ours, we have seen a LOT of them pushing motor homes all over the place, and haven't heard anything bad yet.

RE: Mattress for queen over engine

Check around for a mattress maker in your area. They will build a custom sized mattressfor a very reasonable price. They cut down a standard size, and our cae, installed extra edge support on the edge where we usually sit while getting ready for bed. In our case, the bottom edge of the bed gets a lot more use than the rest of the edges.

RE: Natchez Trace w/toad?

Which way are you going, and where are you starting from?? There is a fairly new campground right off the parkway at Hwy. 412 close to Howenwald which we have not stayed at, but driving by, it looks fairly nice. Other than that, be sure to stop at French Creek and have lunch. Its about the best place to eat on the entire trace.

RE: Is antenna booster really needed for DTV on batwing antenna?

Another most important thing is that the antenna booster switch is also a A/B switch between the antenna, and your cable imput line. With the switch turnede off, your TVs are connected to the cable input instead of the antenna. If you really want to see the effect of not using the booster, disconnect the 12v input to the booster. Personally, it is such a small amount of power that I wouldn't worry about it/

RE: Satellite Dish Question!

For Dish network, the 119 satellite is a little bit down and to the right of the 110 satellite. Using my meter, if I can find both, then I know I have the right ones even without looking at the receiver display.

RE: Satellite Dish Question!

I also use a compass and a meter. Most important thing is to have mast exactly vertical. Otherwise, when you turn the dish, you are changing both direction and altitude. If I have a clear shot, I usually have the satellite in less than a minute. Another minute to peak my aim, check for the right sattelite, and remove the meter(which improves the signal.)

RE: Synthetic Oil

Not as much change in mileage now as in beginning when Syn oils first came out. Reason is that most oils have additives with the same long-chain molecules as synthetic, which helps lubrication in them also. When I first started using synthetic, a 10 percent increase in mileage was the rule, along with double oil mileage. Back then, we changed the filter, and unless the oil was black, just added enough to top off. Amszoil would change color, but no sludge.

RE: White Powder?

The white power is probably Ant powder. If you see us, it is. We did not realize the problem until one day while camping in Mississippi, we noticed a LOT of ants in the walls and dining table. found them coming up our power cord, down the side of the MH, and in around a window. We have used ant powder at campsites ever since. In the lower Tennessee area especially, look our for fire ant nest or mounds around the camping pads. If you find one, a good dose of fire ant powder will take care of it immediately, helping you and other that follow.

RE: Need some straight answers on GPS!

I did not consider a GPS unit for our MH because it seemed that it would have to mount too far away from the driver to be useful. After using a garmin in our toad, I tried sticking the suction mount to the front of the console mounted TV. Worked great, so I installed the round base plate on the top edge of the TV, added a remote antenna, and it is ueally wonderful now. Just keep the suction cup and the mounting plate clean to insure a good solid mount.

RE: Need some straight answers on GPS!

The most important thing to remember in an RV with a GPS is 'Do not assume that it will always send you places that an RV can go!' Also, we find ourselvs in a lot of places and new roads that really confuse the GPS unit. She gets real deterermined with the "MAKE A U-TURN NOW" messages. We also find her telling us that we are miles off of any known highway!

RE: Need help on my sleeper sofa

Please excuse my remark made in humor. We will have a daughter with us for several days this summer, and umderstand the problem. We have had success with an air mattress on the floor. With no slides, we replaced our dinette with a fold-down table, shich opens up a pretty large space on the floor.

RE: Leveling

We have the same problem. Appears that either jacks are leaking a bit, OR, jack pads are settling into ground after a day or so. I think that I will do as HWH sugggested, and measure after setup and then later. We are going toward Iowa later this year, and if there is a problem, will get HWH to fix it.

RE: Leveling in the driveway

In your drive, use blocks if possible, due to emergency brakes being on back wheels or driveshaft.

RE: Help! Eastern Kentucky Experts!

Carter Caves State Resort Park at exit 151 off I-64. We have stayed there, and it is very nice. Might call ahead to make sure a site is available, but during the week, you should have no problem. Good roads getting to the park, and some real fun hill, but we had no problem in our 30' class A with a toad. Also, this park has one of the best resturants we have been in at the lodge.
